Gargling Salt Water

Gargling with warm salt water is a simple, low-risk home remedy that can help relieve throat symptoms from upper respiratory illnesses like colds or viral sore throats. The salt helps draw out excess fluid from inflamed throat tissues, which can reduce swelling, loosen mucus, and temporarily ease pain and irritation.

It doesn’t treat the underlying infection, but many people find it soothing and helpful for symptom relief. A common mix is about ½ teaspoon of salt in a cup of warm water, gargled for 15–30 seconds and repeated several times a day as needed.

This seems to help, but not sure of its effectiveness. The key is to try to coat your throat with warm salt water as deep into the throat WITHOUT swallowing the salt water!
