Vicks NyQuil Cold & Flu

Alternative Names: Nighttime Cold & Flu Relief, Nighttime Cough & Cold, Severe Nighttime Cold & Flu

NyQuil contains acetaminophen for pain and fever relief, dextromethorphan to suppress cough, and doxylamine, an antihistamine that causes drowsiness and helps with sleep. In contrast, DayQuil also treats pain, fever, and cough but does not contain a sedating antihistamine, making it suitable for daytime use. DayQuil typically includes a decongestant to relieve nasal congestion, which NyQuil does not emphasize. The key difference is that NyQuil is designed to promote rest at night, while DayQuil is formulated to relieve symptoms without causing sleepiness.

Cough syrup for night use because it will make you drowsy and help you sleep. This is just dextromorphan + tylenol + antihistimine.

NyQuil offers convenient symptom coverage by combining medications for fever and pain, cough, and runny nose into a single product. The antihistamine component can be sedating, which may be helpful at night but can also cause next-day drowsiness for some people. Personally, I prefer to take the individual components separately so I can better target specific symptoms. If using NyQuil, it’s important to be aware of the acetaminophen (Tylenol) content and avoid combining it with other products that contain acetaminophen.
