Miconazole mucoadhesive buccal tablets are used to treat oropharyngeal candidiasis (oral thrush). The tablet is applied once daily to the upper gum above a canine tooth, where it adheres and slowly releases miconazole directly into the mouth over 24 hours. This provides continuous antifungal activity against Candida species, helping clear infection while minimizing systemic drug exposure.

Treatment usually lasts 7–14 days, depending on severity. Side effects are typically mild and may include mouth irritation, altered taste, headache, or gastrointestinal upset. Because of its once-daily dosing and localized effect, this option is especially useful for patients who may have difficulty with multiple daily doses of antifungal lozenges or rinses.
