Malleable (Semirigid) Penile Prosthesis
A malleable (semirigid) penile prosthesis is a surgical option for men with erectile dysfunction who do not respond to medications or injections. It involves implanting two bendable rods into the penis that remain firm but flexible at all times. The penis can then be positioned upward for sexual activity or downward for concealment. Compared to inflatable implants, malleable prostheses are simpler to use and have fewer mechanical problems. However, the penis stays semi-rigid constantly, which may look less natural and can make concealment harder. Despite these limitations, many men and their partners report high satisfaction after surgery.
