Hair apposition (hair-tying) technique is a method used to close scalp lacerations by using the patient’s own hair instead of sutures or staples. It’s ideal for clean, straight scalp wounds less than about 10 cm long where the surrounding hair is at least 1 cm in length.

In this technique, small bundles of hair from opposite sides of the wound are twisted together and secured with tissue adhesive (like Dermabond) to hold the wound edges closed. It is quick, painless, and does not require shaving, making it excellent for children and cosmetic areas. The closure usually remains intact for about 7–10 days and the adhesive naturally loosens as healing completes.
