RSV
Respiratory Syncytial Virus, Bronchiolitis
RSV stands for Respiratory Syncytial Virus, and it’s a common virus that causes cold-like symptoms like a runny nose, cough, and fever. Most people get it when they are young, and it usually goes away on its own. But for babies and older adults, RSV can be more serious and cause problems with breathing, like bronchiolitis or pneumonia. It spreads easily through coughs, sneezes, or touching things that have the virus on them. There are now vaccines and medicines that can help protect people from getting really sick from RSV.
Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is a common respiratory virus that can cause severe illness, especially in young children and older adults. Symptomatic treatments for RSV include managing rhinorrhea, fever, and cough. Recently, preventive measures such as the RSVpreF vaccine and Nirsevimab have shown significant promise in reducing the risk of severe RSV illness. Aerosolized ribavirin, although FDA-approved, has limited use due to its effectiveness, cost, and challenges in administration.
