Vaginal contraceptive ring

Alternative Names: NuvaRing, EluRyng, Haloette, EnilloRing, Annovera

The vaginal ring is a small, flexible ring placed in the vagina that releases estrogen and progestin to help prevent pregnancy. It is about 93% effective with typical use, meaning about 7 out of 100 people may become pregnant in a year, and about 99% effective with perfect use. It is commonly placed for 3 weeks, then removed for 1 week before starting the next cycle; depending on the brand, you may insert a new ring each month or reuse the same ring for up to 1 year. Many people choose it because it does not require taking a daily pill, is discreet, user-controlled, and can give more control over cycle timing. It may also help make periods more regular, lighter, or less painful, though some people may notice vaginal irritation, discharge, spotting, nausea, breast tenderness, or discomfort with placement.
