Ice
Ice may help relieve muscle cramps by reducing pain signals and calming irritated nerves, which can lessen the intensity of a cramp for some people. Cold therapy can also decrease localized inflammation if the cramp is related to muscle overuse or minor strain. In certain cases, applying ice may help interrupt the cramp cycle by altering nerve signaling to the muscle. While responses vary, ice is generally safe when used briefly and with a barrier to protect the skin. It is often most helpful after or between cramps, especially when soreness persists.
