Salicylic acid plasters or pads provide a targeted, high-strength keratolytic treatment that gradually removes the thickened skin and viral core of a wart. These pads are typically placed directly over the lesion and changed every 48 hours, allowing continuous medication delivery while also protecting the area from friction—especially helpful for painful plantar warts on the feet. Over consistent use, the wart tissue softens and can be pared down, often improving discomfort with walking and reducing size. Pads are convenient and reduce the likelihood of medication spreading to nearby healthy skin, though some mild irritation can still occur. As with other salicylic acid treatments, patients with diabetes, neuropathy, or poor circulation should use them only with clinical guidance to avoid skin breakdown on weight-bearing areas.
