Alfuzosin
Alternative Names: Uroxatral
Alfuzosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor blocker used as supportive therapy for chronic prostatitis or chronic pelvic pain syndrome (CP/CPPS) to relieve lower urinary tract symptoms. It works by relaxing smooth muscle in the bladder neck and prostate, improving urine flow and reducing voiding discomfort caused by prostatic inflammation or muscle tension. Unlike some other alpha-blockers, alfuzosin has a lower risk of causing ejaculatory dysfunction. It is typically taken once daily and may be combined with antibiotics, anti-inflammatory agents, or pelvic floor therapy in chronic cases. Common side effects include dizziness, fatigue, and low blood pressure, particularly when standing.
