Ropinirole (Requip®) is a dopamine agonist used in Parkinson’s disease to improve tremor, stiffness, and slowness of movement. It can be given alone in early stages or combined with levodopa later to reduce “wearing-off” effects and help lower levodopa requirements. While less potent than levodopa, it is valuable for symptom control, particularly in younger patients. Side effects may include nausea, dizziness, drowsiness, low blood pressure, and impulse-control problems such as compulsive gambling or shopping. Overall, ropinirole provides another option to smooth symptoms and delay complications.
