Rosuvastatin (trade name Crestor) is a potent statin medication that works by inhibiting HMG-CoA reductase, the liver enzyme responsible for producing cholesterol. It significantly lowers LDL (“bad” cholesterol) and triglycerides, while modestly increasing HDL (“good” cholesterol). Rosuvastatin is considered one of the strongest statins available, often used when substantial LDL reduction is needed or when other statins are not sufficient.
