Docetaxel
Docetaxel is a chemotherapy drug commonly used in combination with androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) for metastatic hormone-sensitive prostate cancer (mHSPC), especially in men with high-volume or symptomatic disease. It works by inhibiting cancer cell division and promoting cell death.
When added to ADT, docetaxel has been shown to improve overall survival in large clinical trials (e.g., CHAARTED, STAMPEDE), particularly in patients with extensive bone or visceral metastases. It is typically given as 6 cycles every 3 weeks. Side effects can include fatigue, low blood counts, neuropathy, and risk of infection, so it is best suited for patients with good performance status.
