Diphenhydramine
Alternative Names: Benadryl, Dramamine
Diphenhydramine is sometimes used off-label to manage nausea and motion sensitivity associated with benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV). As an antihistamine, it can help reduce vestibular symptoms temporarily but does not treat the root cause of BPPV, which involves displaced crystals in the inner ear. Its sedative effects may provide short-term relief but can also worsen balance and cause drowsiness. Benadryl is best used as a supportive treatment while awaiting or undergoing repositioning maneuvers like the Epley maneuver.
Treatment Type: Over the Counter Medication
