Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) Therapy
Intense Pulsed Light, or IPL, is a special treatment that uses flashes of light to help people with dry eyes—especially when the problem comes from blocked oil glands in their eyelids (called meibomian glands). These glands are supposed to make oil that keeps your tears from drying up too fast. If they’re not working right, your eyes can get dry, itchy, or tired.
During IPL treatment, a doctor gently shines little bursts of light on the skin near your eyes (not in your eyes!). This light helps open up the oil glands, reduce swelling, and get the oil flowing again.
It’s kind of like giving your eyelids a warm, light-powered clean-up! Most people need a few treatments to see the best results, and it doesn’t hurt.
